Long hiatus, now back playing:
I eagerly returned to Aion, super hyped to dive back in. I was even prepared to toss some cash at GF if they got it right.
Well, they got me for 30€.
Here's my take and why my squad bailed out after just 3 days:
Kinah generation:
There's literally no passive kinah creation via monster slaying.
Maybe to clamp down on bots, but it basically means that quests are now the SOLE way kinah gets generated in game.
Loot drop rates outside instances are abysmal, so selling stuff to vendors isn't happening.
Kinah sinks:
These are meant to keep inflation in check. (Though, handing battlepass users 400coin is a SURE way to coin-flate)
Yet they feel super off here:
>Soul sickness is insanely pricey to cure
>Teleports & soul binds can quickly become unaffordable
>Weapon fusing is pricier than the weapon itself
Drop rates:
>After continuous play and group farming, I've snagged only 2 blue items, a handful of greens, and that's it
>I rarely see manastones (the number of yellow manastones I've seen I can count on one hand)
>Quest item drop rates plummet as you progress. Which is "fine," but needing 20 items for each person in a quest seems like a colossal time sink.
And we haven't even gotten into other problem areas, like lag and content changes (where did all the elite mobs go?). It seems all these issues could mysteriously disappear if GF sold solutions in the store. And that's just frustrating.
Ultra frustrating, the game's messed up economy will be the first to send folks packing.
While Gameforge leaves much to be desired, I've found hope in the Aion Riftshade beta. This server doesn’t suffer from those pitfalls; it boasts balanced kinah sources and fair drop rates. Plus, its launch is just around the corner in Q1 2026, and it's set up to be the best Aion private server 2026. The community is super active with a credible EU hosting ensuring no lag issues. Honestly, I'm excited about Aion Riftshade's version 4.8 with all those advanced features – it's gonna blow other servers out the water!
