Tiak Research Base is an instance featured in Aion Classic, similar in function to Dredgion, offering PvP encounters and opportunities to gain AP.
Entering Tiak is akin to joining Dredgion. You can queue solo or as a group; once Aion locates a session for you, you're prompted to accept the invitation and are transported to the battleground. Before diving into strategy, let's break down the main objectives.
In Tiak, the ultimate aim is to outscore your foes by the match’s conclusion. Victory is determined by either reaching the 30-minute mark or defeating the final boss.
How do you accumulate points?
Several methods exist for scoring.
- One method involves capturing data processors. Initially capturing a processor grants 300 points and subsequently provides 10 points every 10 seconds as long as it remains under your control. There are five of these across the map, and their points stack.
- Another method is dispatching mobs. Prisoners in the central zones are prime targets due to their 100-point value each.
- A third way is through collection, despite only the individual gathering the nex receiving 50 points. Nex ore can be found in the drana field of the primary area.
- PvP is a fourth avenue. The mechanics mirror those of Dredgion: dying loses you points, while defeating an opponent increases them.
- Lastly, there’s boss hunting. In Tiak, two regularly spawning bosses are marabata and spaller, whereas a large slime appears occasionally with three potential spawn points indicated by square icons. Although it doesn’t yield points, it’s needed for a quest. Initially, the two main bosses are encased in tubes and require waiting to engage. Completing all scenarios awards a platinum medal, which can be collected over several runs.
Quests play a part in Tiak's experience, primarily located in the initial square chamber. You encounter three quests/tasks mandating the slaying of mutated creatures in cells and their guards, rewarding between 800 and 1200 AP per quest.
Approaches to defeating the last boss?
Two methods unlock access to the last boss.
- The first is straightforward: climbing central stairs, destroying the gate, and advancing ahead. However, it's a lengthy process few undertake unless left with no alternatives.
- Alternatively, retaining management over both middle-area data processors triggers the emergence of Barrier Generators near the eastern and western cave entrances. Defeating these will unlock the lateral passages to the boss. Gates eventually regenerate, resetting progression, but managing the timing can effectively trap your team with the boss safely.
A hidden mechanic similar to Dredgion is teleportation: teleporters allow rapid post-respawn travel. Unlike Dredgion, their control can be switched, restricting usage solely to the controlling faction.
If your team gets sidelined into spawn restriction, breaking the gate and slipping across the broken stairs lets you continue scoring and questing. On NA Classic, a renowned spirit master named Kwan excelled in solo victories by utilizing unconventional exits.
Final tip: leveraging Tiak's training-friendly design, retreating behind a boss-holding tube often deters adversaries.
