Understanding Stats: Manastone and Gear Attributes Explained – Focus on Attack, Crit, Magic Boost, etc.
What do these stats do?
The 8 available classes tend to focus on either physical attacks or magical spells:
- Physical classes include: Templar (warrior), Gladiator (warrior), Assassin (scout), Ranger (scout), Chanter (priest)
- Magic classes include: Cleric (priest), Sorcerer (mage), Spiritmaster (mage)
Accuracy
The Accuracy stat of a physical attacker determines if the attack will hit the full damage against the defender’s Evasion, Parry, or Block stats.
All use the formula (DefStat - Accuracy) / 10%, thus 10 higher blocks means 1% increased block chance, with 100 more blocks improving the chance by 10%.
- Evasion offers a "Dodge," negating all damage and any added CrowdControl effects from an attack, maxing at 30% chance. More than 300 Evasion beyond enemy Accuracy yields no extra benefits.
- Parry translates to "Parrying" an attack, halving the damage taken (roughly -50%), maxing at a 40% chance. Exceeding 400 Parry against enemy Accuracy provides no extra effect.
- Block implies "Blocking" when using a shield in the off-hand, considerably reducing damage based on shield efficiency (up to approx. -70% or more depending on shield enchantment), maxing at 50% chance. Going beyond 500 Block compared to enemy Accuracy gives no added benefits.
Check order during a physical attack:
Evade (up to 30% chance) => Parry (up to 40% chance) => Block (up to 50% chance).
Attack (base weapon attack & “green attack”)
Manastones and gear add Bonus Attack (+Attack), which enhances physical damage, while weapon base attack boosts from enchanting are multiplicative (generally more effective).
So enhancing weapon base attack, e.g., +4 attack, is more beneficial for attack skills than adding a +4 attack manastone to gear.
The "+Attack" bonus, often termed "Green Attack" by players, despite being additive, is popular for boosting PvE DPS (and sometimes PvP for specific classes).
Critical Strike
Critical strike provides a linear 1% chance per every 10 points, up to 50% at a 500 Critical Strike, for achieving a "critical strike" with both regular and skill-based physical attacks.
Critical strike amplifies damage (ranging 1.7 to 2.3x) based on the weapon type:
Dagger 2.3x // Sword 2.2x // Mace 2.0x // Greatsword 1.8x // Polearm 1.8x // Bow 1.7x // Staff 1.7x
Weapons inherently carry "base crit" (initial gained +CriticalStrike simply from wielding them):
- Dagger 100
- Staff 60
- Sword/Polearm/Bow 50
- Mace/Greatsword 10
Despite lower crit rates, weapons like Greatswords offer advantages, such as heightened accuracy.
In PvP due to "Strike Resist," gaining more than 500 is advisable. Refer to Aion Wiki’s Strike Resist section for specifics.
PvP is further influenced by the "Strike Fortitude" stat. For more, check Aion Wiki’s strike Fortitude section.
Magic Boost
Magic-class players amplify their spell damage by boosting Magic Boost stat, which increases spell damage linearly, capped at a defined max. Version-wise, the cap is at 2700 Magic Boost, and surpassing this doesn't add more benefit (until later updates).
Magic Accuracy (and Magic Resist)
Each spell cast utilizes a similar formula to physical attacks (Accuracy - Evasion) / 10%.
For spells: (Magic Accuracy - Magic Resist) / 10%, if the result is positive, the spell could get "Resisted," nullifying all damage and effects.
Several physical classes have CrowdControl abilities that treat Magic Accuracy vs Magic Resist Clashes as spells. This may cause physical classes to have utility skills "Resisted" if their magic accuracy (from low-level weapons) is inadequate, such as Gladiator's "Ankle Snare" and Ranger's "Sleep Arrow," which are "spells," not physical strikes.
Magic Resist doesn't particularly cap (it's roughly 90% in Classic, if present).
On a brighter note, with equivalent gear levels, Magic Accuracy remains superior, and both magic classes boast self-buff skills to momentarily increase Magic Accuracy.
HP and MP
HP and MP expand your Health and Mana pools respectively, by a specified amount.
For example, +50 HP signifies a +50 increase in maximum health.
